New York, New York ...

Where better to start this blog than with the terrain to fight over?

I was lucky enough to pick up one of the Battle for Earth event boards from the UK Games Expo this year:

It’s a hefty package, and a lot of wood!
Just the base boards!
Work in Progress, base boards in left pile, buildings in right!
The obvious place to start building from was the modular base boards which are 95% complete -  just needing a re-do on the road markings for the crossroad piece, and add some small details to the storm drains.

The modular city boards included in the set are:
  • 3 x straight road
  • 1 x straight road with lay-by
  • 2 x T-junction
  • 1 x Y-junction
  • 1 x crossroad
  • 2 x dead end roads
  • 2 x raised plaza
  • 1 x flat board
  • 3 x SFX047 - Flood Defense Board
This provides a large amount of variety to the amount of layout’s, and also already has 2 distinct elevations, which makes for better games of DzC in our experience!  In order to compliment this, if / when TTCombat make these pieces available separately I’m probably going to pick up an additional 8 pieces to allow either a 6ft x 4ft board (for large games / reuse for Adeptus Titanicus) or to provide greater variety to the 4ft x 4ft layouts possible.  However I’m very impressed with the quality and variety provided out the box, and would definitely recommend it to anyone given the chance.

Next post will take a look at the buildings included ...
